People in Texas will suffer because the federal government cares more about birds.
The federal government wants to add to the list of endangered species in Texas. We support environmental stewardship but let’s be honest, the federal government has a poor track record with intervening in…just about everything. Endangered species designations lead to excessive interventions that destroy businesses, kill jobs, and undercut private property rights. Sometimes the designations lead to a lot of whacky decisions by bureaucrats who are clearly in over their heads. The latest example is the recent decision to kill thousands of one species of owl in order to make room for another species of owl. Brilliant!
Student debt is a crushing burden on a great number of college graduates in Texas and across the nation. The student debt bomb will explode. It’s not so much a matter of if, but when. The tragedy of it is that the debt bomb was a foreseeable and avoidable problem that can be directly attributed to government policy. The scandal of it is that it’s a public policy problem that the media doesn’t seem to want to hold the political class accountable for.
U.S. Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland is leading a congressional delegation to Israel to learn more about immigration and border security. U.S. Rep Michael McCaul of Texas is leading a congressional delegation to the Texas-Mexico border to learn more about immigration and border security. We wonder which delegation will be most productive in gathering information relevant to securing the U.S.-Mexico Border.

Just five months into his presidency on this day in 1861, Abraham Lincoln reviewed Col. Dan Sickles’ New York Brigade along with regiments from Wisconsin.
Sickles was an interesting character before, during, and after the war. As a sitting member of the United States House of Representatives in 1859, Rep. Sickles shot and killed his wife’s lover who was the District Attorney of Washington, DC and also happened to be the son of one Francis Scott Key. After a sensational trial, Sickles was acquitted and went back to work in Congress. (Yes, he murdered a man in cold blood, was acquitted, and didn’t bother to resign from Congress.)
At the outset of the Civil War, Sickles raised volunteer troops from his home state of New York, was made a regimental colonel, and led men in combat. He rose to the rank of brigadier general and was engaged in many famous battles of the war. Most notably, during the battle of Gettysburg, Gen. Sickles disobeyed Gen. Meade’s orders to hold a position on Cemetery Ridge and instead moved off the ridge and took a position forward in the infamous Peach Orchard where ...
Congratulations to Jacksonville police officers James Lozano and Christopher Bell who were honored yesterday in recognition of their heroic lifesaving acts. We need more like you.
Remember when Google’s “Don’t Be Evil” motto seemed legit? Neither do we. Google’s quest to dominate Big Data clearly demonstrates their disregard for the privacy of their customers.
Well, good for them. The NFL briefly repudiates its growing reputation as the No Fun League in ruling that allows Houston Texans star to perform his post-sack salute.
